Brazilian Waxing and Your Skin

Brazilian waxing has become extremely popular in the last 10-20 years, mostly among women, but also men. In my opinion Brazilian waxing is a fashion that is here to stay, so if we are going to do it, lets do it right.
For those of you who dont know, Brazilian waxing is a type of bikini waxing that is taking off everything down there, back, front and in between. Just like any other type of waxing or hair removing technique, a Brazilian can lead to skin problems like redness, bumps, sensitiveness and so on and so forth. In order to avoid any skin issues and make sure you will have a good waxing experience I prepared a list of “dos” and “do nots” before and after a Brazilian. Here it goes.
What to do before a Brazilian?
First of all you should make sure that you have no scratches or wounds down there before making an appointment. Any scratch might increase the chances of getting an infection. Wear something comfortable. After the waxing your skin will be a little bit sore, so you dont want any additional friction or discomfort caused by your clothes. A loose pair of cotton panties is a good choice.
Dont use lotions, creams or any kind of products on your skin before going to the salon. These might prevent the wax from adhering to the hair so you will end up with a lot of hair left over. The only one using any products on that area will be the beauty therapist.
Some salons will use baby powder to prevent the wax from sticking to your skin, therefore decreasing the discomfort. If you have sensitive skin you can use ice to numb the area or you can ask the cosmetician to recommend you a pain killer, which you can take one hour before the waxing. Anyways, I am not in favor of using pills or products that dont make you feel it at all because you wont be able to tell if something goes wrong.
Next, you might want to check out the hygiene and the sanitary measures the salon is taking to prevent cross-contamination between clients. Make sure to ask the staff any questions that you might have and make sure you understand the whole process.
If you have really, really sensitive skin and you get rashes all the time I dont recommend getting a Brazilian at all.
What to do after a Brazilian?
Most girls, after they get home from the salon they start to touch the area a lot. Big mistake! Stop doing it people. I know you want to check it out, see how it looks and feels but allow at least a couple of hours for the skin to recover. It’s been through a lot. Chances of getting an infection are higher right after the waxing.
Don’t take hot showers. Heat is really bad for freshly waxed skin and will increase the discomfort. Also, avoid swimming or tanning.
Don’t have sex in the next 24 hours. Chances of contacting an S.T.D. in this period are extremely high.
Last but not least, moisturize the skin if needed. If you notice any side effects I strongly recommend consulting your physician.
