SkinHealth Technology Advanced Sunscreen Formulas
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has released its fifth annual guide to sunscreen products — rating them for both safety (based on whether they contain toxic chemicals) and effectiveness (based on data on how well they block UVA and UVB rays and withstand exposure to the sun), as reported in a recent article from Time Magazine.
“Since the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t regulate sunscreen, the EWG says, it’s up to the consumer to suss out what’s safe.” Proposed new FDA sunscreen guidelines have been on the table for many years, but suncare manufacturers currently provide only limited labeling information. For instance, no traditional sunscreens indicate how much UVA protection they provide.
The newest FDA (FM) regulations—originally scheduled for completion in May of 2009– are reported to be under final review in the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB.) An actual release date of the new Sunscreen Monograph is still unknown, but it is likely to become law in the near future. At that time, entirely new standards for sunscreen ratings, packaging, labeling and formulation will be implemented and enforced.
According to Florida Dermatologist, Dr. Jeffrey Parks, “The FDA needs to act now. Sunscreen labeling should reflect a formula’s true performance, especially UVA protection. The new rules will save your skin and may save your life.”
In anticipation of the implementation of the Food and Drug Administration’s “Proposed Amendment of the Final Sunscreen Monograph”—Florida-based SkinHealth Technology has introduced advanced UVA sunscreen formulas that meet or exceed the FDA’s pending requirements.
UV SkinCare Facial Light Lotion Sunscreen and AcneCare Clean Screen Sunscreen Lotion were created and tested to meet all of the new sun protection standards. These broad spectrum formulas combine the highest—“Four Star” UVA protection available on the market with effective 35 SPF—UVB protection. The photostable formulations deliver consistent protection and will not degrade like most conventional sunscreens. No other sunscreens have gone to such lengths to communicate formula performance.
