Holiday Makeup Tips from Celebrity Makeup Artist
Holiday parties are the perfect occasions to take your makeup up a notch. But, with lots of beauty looks and colors to choose from, it can be difficult to find the most flattering.
“This year, your makeup for the holidays should be all about rich tones and sparkle,” says celebrity makeup artist Gita Bass, who has created some of the most eye-catching looks for celebrities like Heidi Klum and Keira Knightly.
Bass offers her no-fail beauty tips for the perfect looks this holiday party season:
* Banish dull skin: You want to look like you’re in the holiday spirit, so your skin should be healthy and glowing. “Try a gold shimmer cream or a shimmery powder along your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose and on your shoulders and décolletage,” Bass says. “Sheer gold color looks great on just about everyone!”
* Whiten up: If a long day or a lack of sleep has left you with bloodshot eyes, it’s best to “whiten up” before applying make-up. “Dry, red eyes are never a good look, especially when your makeup is calling attention to your eyes,” Bass says. “I like to use ROHTO eye drops to not only clear redness and moisturize, but they cool and refresh.”
* Embrace darker colors: One way to brighten up a smoky eye? Add some color. “First line the eye with black liner,” Bass says. “Smudge the line with colored shadows like rich browns, plums and purples - the perfect shades for gorgeous eyes,” suggests Bass. “Try adding gold shimmer for a warm sparkle or a silvery metallic for an icy glow!” Curl your lashes and finish with black mascara.
* Get catty: A popular look since the summer, the cat’s eye is still a great option for the holidays! Dot some eyeliner pencil along the upper lash line close to the roots and begin to slant upwards where your pupil ends. Now dip a flat lip brush into some liquid or gel liner and trace the pencil line. Curl your lashes and put on three layers of mascara. “The cat’s eye is fun, sexy and dramatic and the perfect way to command attention,” Bass says.
* Lip service: Last but not least, your lips tie your the holiday party look together. “If you choose to do a colored, smoky eye, then you should opt for a more natural lip,” says Bass. “Try a warm or pink bronze for a finishing touch of sparkle. For a little extra color, try a muted red or pink gloss that has only a touch of pigment. Deep reds and plums are gorgeous holiday lip colors - just be sure to keep the rest of your face neutral, but still look finished.
ROHTO® eye drops are available in three formulations - Cool, Ice and Arctic - and are available for a suggested retail price of $6.99 for a 0.4-ounce bottle at most drug, mass and grocery outlets nationwide.
